Want to use your office in 2023? Check the energy label now!

As of 1 January 2023, any office larger than 100 m² must have at least a C energy label.  If the property does not meet this requirement, it may no longer be used as offices. But how do you check whether your office meets this requirement? And what should you do if it doesn't? We have the answers for you!

Agreement on an energy-neutral, built environment

The new regulations flow from the Energy Agreement of 2013. In 2019 the Climate Agreement formulated new targets for the built environment. Achieving an energy-neutral environment by 2050 is one of these targets. The obligation for businesses to at least have a C energy label by 2023 is the first step towards compliance with the Energy Agreement.

Do the energy check!

By 2023, there will be strict controls on whether buildings meet the requirement of having at least a C energy label. Do you have any idea of your offices' current energy label? If not, consult the website, EP-online. It is also possible that your office has no energy rating at all. In which case you can request one.

Energy label A++++ to C? That's OK then!

If your office has an energy label between A++++ and C there's nothing to worry about. As described above, every office is supposed to be climate neutral by 2050. Good to keep this in mind if, for example, renovations are required before that date. In addition, there are financial provisions which could offer support and so lower the threshold to better energy performance. Need help? Energy label D to G? We need to do something about that!

Offices with labels from D to G can sometimes obtain a C energy label without any construction interventions. It is possible that with relatively few interventions your building could even make the step directly to energy label A or B! It is good to include this knowledge in any relevant decision-making, given the government's aim to allow only energy-neutral offices in the future. If you make the leap to energy label A now, you can be sure that you will continue to comply with all rules in the future.

No energy label?

Don't worry! You can have one drawn up by an energy advisor with a BRL9500-03 certificate. Following registration in the database, you will receive the energy label. Would you rather have an external party take this off your hands? We will be happy to help you.
