"How can I make my office, school building or apartment more sustainable?" A question that is asked increasingly, because the issue of 'sustainability' is finally higher up the agendas of companies, investors, developers, housing associations, government bodies and private individuals. They are being encouraged in that direction by changing legislation and regulations to stimulate sustainable real estate. For example, in November 2016, Stef Blok, the then Minister for Housing, announced that all Dutch offices must be energy efficient by 2023. By that date, all offices must comply with energy label C or higher if they are still to be used as such. If they do not comply, those buildings will lose their function as offices. And since 2015, all new homes have had to meet an EPC norm of <0.4 on delivery, which is almost equivalent to energy neutral.
