We read about it in the newspapers every day – the Dutch housing market is booming. In Amsterdam in particular, records are being broken. Prices have risen spectacularly in recent months. The average price of a home in Amsterdam rose by more than 17% in 2016 compared to 2015. Not only must buyers pay more, they must also react faster. The average house in our capital changes hands in 24 days. The supply of new homes on the market is getting smaller all the time, which means people are increasingly offering more than the asking price. In 2016, nearly 60% of homes in Amsterdam were sold at above the asking price.
