Cheap parking in Amsterdam?

Home

Finding cheap parking in Amsterdam is difficult. And it has become even more difficult since April 2019, when the cost of parking increased significantly - not only in the city centre, but also in many other parts of the city. Rates have also risen sharply in many municipal parking garages. Does cheap parking in Amsterdam still exist?

FRIS has the answer - and it's in the FRIS Parking Guide. Discover where to park cheaply in Amsterdam, in one click.

How FRIS helps you find low-cost parking in Amsterdam

FRIS is pleased to help you find inexpensive parking in Amsterdam. The FRIS Parking Guide shows you the hourly parking rate in various parts of the city, at a glance. Parking rate changes are also reflected in the Guide.

Why did parking rates go up anyway?

It’s because the Amsterdam city council hopes these measures will help make the city centre a low-car area. So parking in the city centre now costs €7.50 instead of €5.00 per hour. Since April. Municipal parking garages have also increased their hourly rates sharply. Our comparison shows that between March and May the hourly rates for parking in municipal parking garages increased by an average of 21%. The proceeds of these increased parking charges are intended for investment in improved accessibility and quality of life in the city. This will be achieved by creating more green space and by improving Amsterdam's public transport infrastructure. The municipality has, in addition, allocated a further €400 million to the development of this infrastructure.

Car-free Amsterdam

Alongside its low-car policy, the municipality also aims at having car-free zones in the city centre. Until now only Prins Hendrikkade, Paleisstraat and the Munt have been made car-free. The municipality wants to add more of these areas in coming years.
